MOTHER'S DAY

SOMETHING SWEET (THAT SHE CAN ALSO EAT) THIS MOTHER’S DAY

By on May 8, 2018

Is it just me or can you too still not believe it’s May already? May is the month that always seems to sneak up on me. When I was in school I would hope all year for May to come faster and now that I am mom I feel like it just seems to come out of nowhere. Once it’s May then the world around me seems to go on that ‘school is out for summer’ feeling and I catch myself feeling excited even though basically my life stays the same! I first realized the time was flying when I was marking my calendar for Mother’s Day and (poof!) now it’s only days away. What are you going to get for mom this year?

Since Mother’s Day is just around the corner, I’m thinking something sweet for my mom! And what is sweeter than a box of chocolate dipped strawberries? (Personally I can’t think of anything!) These are the Mother’s Day Berries and they come in two sizes: 12 count or 24 count. The box itself is wrapped in a Mother’s Day decorated sleeve and can be found inside a beautiful red Edible Arrangements bag with a ribbon. The presentation couldn’t be more perfect. So this Mother’s Day let’s all give mom a gift she can eat.

TAKE MOM TO BRUNCH THIS MOTHER’S DAY

By on April 29, 2018

Mother’s Day is right around the corner and I am soaking up every mama celebrated second. Jake and I have a tradition that for every holiday before we start running around to our families houses’ that we do something together first. Yesterday we did a little Mother’s Day brunch test run at Bacari GDL and it was so wonderful that I can already declare this a successful holiday.

It was our first time dining at Bacari GDL, and I was very excited to try their menu. I would describe their plates as small portioned, which is great for trying a lot of flavors. I let my husband choose the plates and he did quite an amazing job. Below is a snapshot of the menu items we ordered.

from left to right: baked cauliflower, brussel sprouts, potato hash, macchiato, dutch pancake, french toast, kids mac n cheese, kids chicken tenders, kids fries

We spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying the Americana at Brand. Sipping ice coffee in their grass area AKA my happy place. Since Lila was such a good girl all day we let her pick a prize from the bookstore and she picked a package of hatchimals. We opened them in the grass area and she met some friends to share them with and play. Soaking in the sun is what Saturdays are all about.

Since becoming a Mother I noticed we don’t have many Mother’s Day traditions. I think that going out to Brunch as a family of three really sets the tone for the day. Other than Brunch we visit my mom and my husbands mom and spend some time with them letting them know how much we love them. My go to gift for Mother’s Day is a hand selected box of chocolates from See’s Candies. I have gotten her this same box of chocolate from as early as I can remember. My husband is sweet and knows how much I love it so he will always hand select a box for as well.

I am really looking forward to this Mother’s Day! I can’t wait to see what my husband has planned for the morning. And as long as it’s brunch, I’ll be a happy mama.

*Thank you to the Americana at Brand for kindly hosting us at Bacari GDL. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

HOW TO EASILY GET YOUR TODDLER TO GO TO BED

By on February 17, 2018

Our Bedtime Routine is a daily task that we are close to having mastered. I am lucky that my daughter has always loved sleep, but there are a few things we do that encourage her to get yawning at night.

The first step of our bedtime routine is bath time. Having a bath is a great way to signal it’s time to wind down for the evening. I like to introduce calming scents in and around the bath to help get my little one feeling cozy and ready for cuddles. A few weeks ago we said goodbye to baths and switched to showers. She actually really enjoys standing showers and it’s been a lot faster of a process, too.

This is the Shower Filter I shared on Instagram. It helped us SO much getting Lila to have eczema free skin. With her normal skin care routine and this filter she is doing great!

In the shower I’ll wet her bath sponge and put a nickel size of body wash on it. I’ll rub this all over her body focusing on the skin that was exposed that day. Usually arms and legs. Then I will wash off the soap and wrap her in a towel without drying her off.

While she is all wrapped up I take her straight to her bed and lay her down. With her skin still damp I apply her eczema cream onto her applicator and rub it into her problem areas. Her areas that will flare up are her knees, behind the knees, her elbows, her left foot, and her left hand. Then I put on her pajamas and move on to her hair.

I always spray her hair with detangler and then work through it with a wet brush. Once it’s brushed and there are no tangles I’ll work about a dime size of mousse through her hair starting at the ends. It makes a huge difference in the way her hair looks the next day! We can’t get enough of this particular jelly mousse. I love that it keeps her hair in place and still feels soft to the touch. No crunchiness!

Next we brush teeth, I recently found a toothbrush for her that I really like. I’ll link it along with all my bedtime favorites at the bottom of this post.

Now that she is all ready for bed we will play in her room together for about half hour. I’ll put on her sound machine or play some calming music, in effort to keep the mood ready for sleep. When it is time to turn out the lights I will cuddle next to her and then usually she will fall asleep pretty quickly.

And…. That’s our routine! It usually takes an hour start to finish. It’s a lot shorter since we switched to showers from baths. I do notice it helps her to get the last little bit of energy out to play in her room after bath time. That was something that I didn’t know to do until it just happened one night and she fell asleep so much faster. So now it’s just part of the routine. Let me know if you have any questions in the comments. Happy Snoozing!
