Materials Needed:

7 Clear Cups
6 Paper Towels (halves)

Tap Water
Red, Yellow, and Blue Food Coloring

Create A Hypothesis

Ask your kids to make a hypothesis about what they think is going to happen! Check at the end to see if their hypothesis was correct.

Procedure

Line up your 7 cups in a row so that they are touching.

FILL THE CUPS

Fill cups 1, 3, 5, and 7 to the top with water

DROP FOOD COLORING IN THE ODD CUPS

Cup #1           5 drops of red
Cup #3           5 drops of yellow
Cup #5           5 drops of blue
Cup #7           5 drops of red

Leave cups 2, 4, and 6 empty.

FOLD THE PAPER TOWELS

Fold the 6 paper towels hot dog style 2x’s and then hamburger style 1x.

PLACE 1 PAPER TOWEL IN 2 CUPS

Paper towel #1 in cups 1 + 2

Paper towel #2 in cups 2 + 3

Paper towel #3 in cups 3 + 4

Paper towel #4 in cups 4 + 5

Paper towel #5 in cups 5 + 6

Paper towel #6 in cups 6 + 7

Think of this experiment like a plants root sending water all the way to the top of the tree's leaves!

Ask your kids to think of other places where you see a rainbow!

When light refracts through water, the result is a rainbow!

Los Angeles

Places to go, eat, and shop

I have lived in Los Angeles almost my whole life. I have gotten to know the city as a child, a teen, a young adult, a married woman, and now a mom. Whether you have lived here all of your life too, or are coming into town for vacation- check out some of my favorite spots!
