One of the best parts about living in California is being able to swim year round. I loved swimming growing up and got to do it often since we had a pool in our backyard. It was one of my favorite things to do and I spent almost all of my free time under water. I remember before every swim my mom would put sunscreen on me and I never understood why I had to use it. I just wanted to swim! Lila loves swimming almost as much as I did and I have learned a thing or two about sun safety since then.
I always make sure to lather her fair skin before we go anywhere but especially the pool. Our favorite for year round application is California Baby’s Sensitive Skin with 30 SPF. It’s a mineral sunscreen that has actually won several awards. It is free of added fragrances, common allergens, and irritants so it’s perfect for allergy-prone, sensitive skin. (Hello, Lila!) The cream applied works as as a barrier on top of the skin instead of being absorbed by the skin like a lot of chemical sunscreens. It’s a diaper bag must have. I like to keep the stick option too so I can just swipe it across Lila’s face in a hurry.
